INDEPENDENT EVANGELICAL CHARISMATIC COMMUNITY CHURCH

WHAT TO EXPECT AT HIS PLACE:

All are welcome at His Place we are a church for the community where you will find a family atmosphere.   We are a church with a global community where we are all members of the family of God. Our fellowship has representatives from United Kingdom, Ghana, Iran, turkey, eastern Europe.  We have members who have and have come through addiction, homelessness. We have members who have mental health and learning disability diagnosis, but nothing separates any of us as we are one family and worship, have fun, serve the lord together. Our congregation bring their dogs with them to as nothing will cause a barrier to our congregation meeting to worship and praise the lord.

At His Place we believe that we are all equal and that everyone  has gifts and ministry, and Jesus is our CEO. We do not employ our ministry team as we all have a servant heart and a calling to the ministry at His Place and all profits are put back into the running  of the service and the restoration of the building which is at risk. Children are seen and heard and regardless of age we are all children of God and encouraged to serve the lord, ascertain what gifts he has given us and supported to use the gifts we have been given. We host a variety of fellowship meetings and welcome visitors and passers-by. There is always a warm welcome. His Place provides not only a church but community centre and everyone who attends is part of the His Place Family. People coming asking for sanctuary, support, or a safe place to sit and recover from there thoughts or anxieties will be supported to do so.

STATEMENT

OF FAITH

The Scriptures known as the Bible, are the inspired word of God, the infallible and all-sufficient rule for faith and practice.

This statement of fundamental Truths is not intended as a creed for the church, but as a basis of a full Gospel Ministry (1 Cor 1:10)

We Believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God.  (2 Tim 3:15-16; 2 Peter 1:21)

We Believe in the unity of the One True and Living God who is the Eternal, Self-Existent “I AM” who has also revealed Himself as One Being in Three Persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Deut 6:4; Mark 12:29; Matt 28:19)

We Believe in the Virgin Birth, Sinless life, Miraculous Ministry, Substitutionary Atoning Death, Bodily Resurrection, Triumphant Ascension and Abiding Intercession of the Lord  Jesus Christ and in his Premillennial Second Advent as the blessed hope set before all believers. (Isa 7:14; Matt 1:23; Heb 7:26; 1 Peter 2:22; Acts 2:22; 10:38; 2 Cor 5:21; Heb 9:12 Luke 24:39; 1 Cor 15:14; Acts 1:9; Eph 4:8 – 10; Rom 8:34; Heb 7:25; 1 Cor 15: 22-24;  1 Cor 15:51-57; 1 Thess 4:13-18; Rev 1-6)

We Believe in the fall of man, who as created pure and upright, fell by voluntary transgression. (Gen 1:26-31; 3:1 -7; Rom 5:12 – 21)

We Believe in salvation through faith in Jesus Christ who died for our sins accordingly to the scriptures, was buried and was raised from among the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures, and through His Blood we have Redemption. (Titus 2:11; 3:5-7; Rom 10:8-15;  1 Cor 15:3-4) This experience is also known as the New Birth, and in an instantaneous and complete operation of the Holy Spirit upon initial faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (John 3:5-6; James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:23; 1 John 5:1)

We Believe that Baptism by immersion in water is enjoyed upon all who have really repented and have truly believed with all their hearts in Christ as Saviour and Lord.  (Matt 28:19; Acts 10:47 - 48; Act 2;38-39)

We Believe that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Offices have been set by God in Church, as recorded in the New Testament.  (1 Cor 12:4 – 11, 28; Eph 4:7-16)

We Believe in Holiness of life and conduct in obedience to the command of God “Be ye holy as I Am Holy” (1 Pet 1:14-16; Heb 12:14; 1 Thess 5:23; 1 John 2:6; 1 Cor 13)

We Believe that deliverance from sickness, by Divine Healing, is provided for in the Atonement. Isa 53:4-5; Matt 8:16 -17; James 5:13-16)

We Believe that breaking of bread is enjoyed upon all believers until the Lord comes. (Luke 22:14-20; 1 Cor 11:20 – 34)

We Believe in the everlasting conscious bliss of all who truly believe in our Lord Jesus Christ and that everlasting conscious punishment is the portion of all whose names are not written in the Book of Life. (Dan 12:2-3; Matt25:46; 2 Thess 1:9; Rev 10 – 15)

7 WEEK COURSE FOR NEW CHRISTIANS

This is a small group study for newer Christians.

This course introduces Christianity and provides a guide to opening up in conversations where opinions and views can be shared.  A DVD is used as a tool to aid the study and there are participants handbooks which you can write notes in. The course is based on Marks Gospel and will aid in identifying historical reliability of Marks Gospel while looking at the big life questions we all have.  Caroline Wheeler leads this course and looks forward to sharing her testimony with you and her experience of leaving her old life to become a Christian with the promise of eternal life.

PUT YOUR NAME DOWN FOR THE NEXT COURSE. We aim for a group between 4 and 10 people. So sooner you register your interest sooner we will start the next one.

12 Step LIFE Recovery SUPPORT Group

Addiction / behaviour faith led program. You do not have to be a Christian to join this group, you will not be preached to we are hereto listen to one another, reflect on our situations and get through these challenges by learning from one another. When the group reaches 10 people we arrange for a second group to be formed.  We meet in the café.

Join any time as we are happy to return to step 1 as this is a revolving program and even those who have been free from addiction for 8 years + continue to come to ensure that they help others while continuing the program to ensure freedom from mind altering behaviours.

This program is a way of life and the steps learned can be used to remain free from  addiction, or unhealthy behaviour, and is a way of life that leads to freedom from: alcohol, drugs, food, gambling, anger, lying and the many more addictions that exists. You're not alone, you won't  be judged and all are welcome.

Confidentiality rules apply within this group. The 12 Step Life Recovery Bible & work book is used, this is based on the AA 12 Steps, but is intertwined with passages from the Bible and true life examples of how the behaviours control us.

WHAT'S A CHURCH SERVICE LIKE ?

At His Place we have a variety of service plans, but we go with the flow of the Holy Spirit - so sometimes singing and praying will be long and other times not so long or there will be a drama sketch or video as well as a talk or a extended time of prayer. We plan the services and the worship but the Lord God intervenes and our plans change instantly. Do not let that put you off, you will feel the presence of the Holy spirit when this happens and feel amazing and go with the flow.

Example plan of a service: (we are not time rigid, the service is organic and we go as the Holy Spirit leads us and   the congregation interacts.

10:20 - Community prayer and intersession for those who are in the main auditorium before service starts at 10:30. Some people meet in café or foyer pre-service.

10:30 - Scripture reading (Bible) & prayer

10:35 - Praise & worship led by the worship team, time to stand, dance, wave flags praise the Lord our God. Modern and traditional hymns and worship music. No one worries about what the person next to them is doing -  just be free in worshiping the lord.

11:15 - The Word of God (talk/sermon led by Rev Chris Sears or one of the church elders.

11:50 - Praise & worship

12:00 - Prayer and blessing

Socialising - After the service those who wish to stay meet in the café for refreshments and socialising. Some weeks there is a bring a share lunch, or cooked lunch, picnic or an afternoon walk after the service.

The toilet available on the first floor is not wheelchair accessible, therefore you would require support to go around the building and in the other entrance or alternatively use the stair lift. Please alert the technical team at the back of the church for help with anything during the service including access, support etc.  If you arrive late, do not worry please just come in and make yourself at home. Children are seen and heard so do not worry about children needing to be quiet and still. We have a variety of seating, including a sofa for those needing true comfort, hard chairs with arms, pews and conference chairs. extra cushions available on request. We have dogs that visit on a Sunday morning too. There is plenty of room for all, so if you like a quiet corner we can accommodate you. We will always do our best to meet your requirements so if you have a disability, or care needs please let one of the leadership know and we will work things out with you. Contact Rev Sears for more information on 01424 - 423501 or Nicola on 07944 - 166351. Alternatively drop in the café and ask to speak to Caroline who will be happy to talk with you if she is not run off her feet.

   Accessibility

His Place has some challenges due to it's age and being listed.

Cambridge Road entrance opposite ESK - has one step then there is flat entrance into church space. Difficulty is the height of the step. We are looking into solutions and grant funding to make this area wheelchair accessible without need for transfers.

Cambridge Road entrance opposite post office - there are three small steps, and grab rail. Once in there is another 2 shallow steps then your in the church area.

Robertson Street entrance next to Creative Media Centre (Pedestrian area) - There is a portable ramp at this entrance for wheelchairs and scooters. Once inside the ground floor is fully accessible. To access the church floor there is  a stair lift on the two flights of stairs.

Toilets ground floor - are gents, ladies and disabled with changing plinth.

Toilets church floor - there is one toilet, but there is a step. People using crutches or walking sticks can access this toilet and in the corridor there is raised toilet frame available for use if required. We are raising funds to install a 2nd toilet which will be raised and there will be grab rails fitted also once funding allows.

Handling aids - we have a handling belt and a slide sheet in the church for use in emergency or if difficulty occurs with a transfer. We have a number of trained staff within the team if a carer is not present or support required unexpectedly.

NEED HELP or wish to discuss your access requirements? Please alert the technical team at the back of the church for help with anything during the service including access, support etc.  If you arrive late,    do not worry please just come in and make yourself at home. Children are seen and heard so do not worry about children needing to be quiet and still. Testimony:

Regularly I pray for people, especially when they have problems coming from ill-health or loneliness and I pray for their encouragement too. Also I pray everyday for close family. Often when I am praying for individuals it is that they are in good health, are happy and free from hardship.

Richard Spencer (Church member)

Testimony:

I believe in prayer. I believe that a person can sometimes know that they are being prayed for too. I need quiet time which in a busy world is often hard to find in life. During the lockdown, praying, walking and listening to God turned out to be a very precious and peaceful part of the day whilst on my local allocated exercise walk.

Jenny Spencer (12 Step Recovery support worker)
